PathMakers to Peace 2019 --Awesome!

Nov 7, 2019

Friends, members and peace and justice activists crowded into the beautiful hall of Brooklyn's Historic Plymouth Church to celebrate another wonderful gala: the 2019 PathMakers to Peace. That's Brooklyn For Peace's annual gala that honors those in the movements for progressive change who made significant contributions to overcoming problems of war and injustice that confront so many of the world's peoples today.

This year, the honorees were certainly worthy of the designation of pathmaker to peace.

Jim Anderson, the president of Peace Action, New York State, has been a long-time peace and social justice activist. Anderson is also State Vice President of Citizen Action of NY and stresses the need for intersectional organizing across issue areas.

Ray Acheson is the Director of Reaching Critical Will, the disarmament arm of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF). Ray participated as WILPF's representative to ICAN, the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons which won the 2017 Nobel Prize for its work for nuclear disarmament.

Zephyr Teachout, a former candidate for NY State Governor, is an attorney, author and Professor of Law at Fordham University. Teachout is an outspoken advocate for social and economic justice, highlighting the role of corporate money in corrupting our democracy.

The guests enjoyed a sumptuous buffet supplied by Bassett Caterers and listened with great attention as each honoree addressed the gathering.

It was another great Brooklyn For Peace gala evening, one in a series of great evenings. Thank you to the Brooklyn For Peace staff that worked so hard to make the evening the great success it was:. Thanks go to BFP Chair Charlotte Phillips, volunteer Tara Currie and BFP Program Director as well as many other volunteers.
